With the 4th right around the corner (literally!), I thought I’d show you all a quick and easy way to make perfect stripes by hand. Break out the rulers, cuz here we go!
Start with your baked, cooled cookies. I used stars and hearts.
Using a food pen, draw a line from tip to tip of the star. (I prefer using a light color pen)
This is really the hardest part: I mark the center of the cookie as my focal point. From there I figured out how big I could make my stripes. Then made my marks. My cookie was 4 inches and I wanted 5 stripes so I made them each a smidge over 3/4 of an inch.
Now draw your stripes
Pipe one color at a time and let it dry completely before adding the next color. I started with the top (just made sense to me;))
I use 20 second icing, cuz I’m lazy like that! LOL!
Then add your stripes.
Now for the finishing touches….
I thought I’d change things up and make cute dots instead of stars on my little flags. What’s life without a little whimsy, right?
Ta-Da!! Have a happy and SAFE 4th of July!!

What is 20-second icing?
The icing is thinned just enough so when you drag a knife through it it falls flat after 20 seconds. Kind of in between flooding and piping icing.
Looks good! Thank you for the technical point of making lines, never thought of that!!! Great blog.
